Mayor Dakota Mitchem, reassured Joliet residents that there are currently no plans to develop the green area along highway 212 at the Town Council meeting, Monday, September 23. He stated that they have been deliberating for about four years to identify areas in town as potentially underutilized, but that is the extent.
They've discussed many ideas concerning the area, including a sidewalk, playground and splashpad, but they are, "Just thoughts and ideas. Very far away." He advised residents that the city owns all of the green area. The state of Montana has a right of way easement and they have approached the town about purchasing it. If the town chooses to purchase the easement it would make it difficult for the state to widen the highway through Joliet.
Mitchem also reassured residents that if anything is to be done, they will start the process with public meetings. He also expressed his appreciation for all in attendance and encouraged residents to stay involved and provide voice to future projects.
He advised the Riverstone Clinic is still weighing different options for a site, but the green area is not the leading option. He suggested that if a surveyor is seen around town. however, it is most likely for Riverstone.
Confusion over the Black Brew Coffee kiosk was also cleared up at the meeting. When the kiosk was initially put in place, the town was not ready for the new style of business. Black Brew did submit a zoning application and was approved, but the town did not have the needed paperwork in place. The attorney is drafting the paperwork and Black Brew will be paying (as well as back-paying) for water and sewer. They did paid for the initial hookups.
The next Town Council meeting will be held Monday, October 21st at 6pm at the Beartooth RC&D building. Meetings are posted at the grocery store, post office and town hall.
